Sichuan Province

In 2014, the disaster situation in Sichuan Province was lighter than that in recent years, with drought and flood disasters as the main disasters. The number of dead and missing persons, the area affected by crops and collapsed houses were the lowest in recent years.

1.Frequent disasters and serious losses

Natural disasters occur frequently in Sichuan throughout the year, including continuous drought in winter and spring in Western Sichuan Plateau and Panxi region, continuous drought in summer in Northeast basin, mountain collapse disaster in Maoxian County, Aba Prefecture, flood disaster in Xiaojin County in Agui Prefecture, debris flow disaster and flood disaster in Donggu Township, Danba County, Ganzi Prefecture. From July to September, Guangyuan, Bazhong, Dazhou, Nanchong and other cities suffered continuous droughts and floods in summer, resulting in heavy losses, the continuous drought in winter and summer has a serious impact on crop sowing, emergence, growth and drinking water for human and livestock; Flood and geological disasters caused by rainstorm caused a large number of collapsed and seriously damaged rural houses, waterlogging in cities and towns, serious casualties and property losses.

2.Prominent drought and crops have great influence

Sichuan is affected by two droughts in the whole year, the spring drought occurs from January to May. The severe drought areas are mainly distributed in Panxi region and Ganzi Prefecture. The summer drought occurs from July to September, mainly in the most part of the basin, Panxi area and the southern part of Ganzi Prefecture. The Jinsha River Valley area in Panxi has less rainfall by more than 80%, and there is basically no effective rainfall in one month, which makes it difficult for people and livestock to drink water in Cangxi County, Guangyuan City, 39 villages and towns were affected by the worst drought, 1150 groups of 187 villages did not plant rice, 70% of corn was dead, and 30% of spring crops died and 70% dried up.

3.The disaster hit areas have been repeatedly affected and people's lives are difficult

Part of the disaster-stricken areas were the hardest hit by the "5•12" Wenchuan Earthquake and the "4•20" Lushan Earthquake. For example, Panzhihua City, the hardest-hit area, suffered continuous droughts in winter and spring for five consecutive years, which made life more difficult for the people in this area, and self-help and recovery of production Reconstruction was greatly affected.
