He is an academician (member) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He the director and professor of the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. From 1996 to 1999, he was a professor of Lanzhou Institute of Glaciology and Geocryology, CAS. From 1995 to 1997, he was a visiting scholar in the Ohio State University, USA. From 1993 to 1994, he was a visiting scholar in Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environment, Paris, France. From 1992 to 1993, he was a visiting scholar in Byrd Polar Research Center, the Ohio State University, USA. From 1988 to 1990, he was a post-doc in Byrd Polar Research Center, the Ohio State University, USA. From 1987 to 1988, post-doc in Laboratoire de Glaciologie et Geophysique de l’Environmement, France.
Achievement
He is an academician (member) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has served as the national 973 plan chief scientist, national outstanding science and technology workers, national 973 plan advanced individual. He has twice won the Chinese Academy of Sciences Natural Science Award. At the same time, he has twice won the Ministry of Science and Technology National Natural Science Award. He has received the "Innovative Innovation Group Fund" by the Natural Science Foundation of China and the He Liang He Li Earth Science Award. He won the first "Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Youth Science and Technology Award" and the first "National Outstanding Youth Fund"
