Work Experience
He is currently the Director of the Natural Hazards Research Platform, and in this role was one of the principal spokespersons during the Canterbury earthquake sequence. His Platform role includes funding natural hazards research around New Zealand for national benefit, and facilitating the uptake of research results in planning and policy among stakeholders spanning the central and local government sector, infrastructure agencies, business, and community. He currently serves as NZ representative on the Governing Board of the GEM (global earthquake model) Foundation, is an associate editor of the Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, an elected Fellow of the NZ National Society for Earthquake Engineering, and has received the two principal awards of the NZ Geosciences Society. In 2012 he received a Queens Service Order for services to science and Canterbury earthquake recovery.
