The online map of disaster frequency distribution by disaster type in Shaanxi Province in 2014 is from the Atlas of natural disasters in China in 2014, the book is edited by the National Disaster Reduction Commission Office, the Disaster relief Department of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the National Disaster Reduction Center of Ministry of Civil Affairs, and is published by China Map Publishing House. The scale of this map is 1:5600000.

Shaanxi Province

In 2014, the disaster situation in Shaanxi Province was the same as that in recent years, mainly drought, flood and geological disasters.

1.Wide range of drought, and the crops are seriously affected

Throughout the year, Shaanxi Province has experienced two drought processes, one is continuous drought in winter and the other is drought in summer. From the end of 2013 to the beginning of 2014, most areas of the province had sustained drought and little rain, there were more than 50 counties (cities and districts) in Weibei, Guanzhong and southern Shaanxi wheat producing areas for more than 50 consecutive days, resulting in serious soil drought and soil moisture shortage.

From the end of June to the beginning of August, most areas sustained high temperature without effective precipitation. Severe drought occurred in Baoji, Yangling, Xi'an, most of Shangluo and Xianyang. The most serious drought occurred in Shangluo City in more than 50 years. In Shangnan County, the drought that was not seen in 88 years since meteorological records were available, resulting in crop drying and no harvest, and serious disaster.

2.Heavy rainfall and heavy disaster losses in autumn

In mid September, autumn drenching occurred in the whole province, with an average rainfall of 145 mm, and an average rainfall of more than 200 mm in most parts of Southern Shaanxi. The rainfall lasted for a long time and affected a wide range, this caused a large number of emergency transfers and resettlement of people, damage to infrastructure, and damage to rural houses, causing serious losses to people’s property.
