Turkey is rich in mineral resources, mainly natural stone, marble, boron, chromium, thorium and coal, worth more than $2 trillion. Among them, natural stone and marble reserves account for 40% of the world, the number of varieties are ranked first in the world. Boron trioxide reserves of 70 million tons, worth $356 billion; Thorium reserves account for 22% of the global total. Chromium ore reserves of 100 million tons, ranking first in the world. In addition, gold, silver and coal reserves are 516 tons, 1,100 tons and 15.5 billion tons respectively. Turkey is short of onshore oil and natural gas resources, and has 405 billion cubic meters of natural gas reserves in the Black Sea. Turkey is rich in rivers and lakes, with the famous Tigris and Euphrates rivers both originating in the country. Turkey is also rich in forest resources, with an area of 220,000 square kilometers, and its forest coverage rate ranks first in the Middle East. Sixty percent of Turkey's land is suitable for agriculture, but only 20 percent has been cultivated.
