Investigation on Disasters along Karakoram Highway in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor

From July 24th to August 2nd, 2019, at the invitation of the National University of Science and Technology of Pakistan, professor Wang Juanle and associate professor Yang Fei of the Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service team (DRRKS) visited Pakistan to conduct a comprehensive survey of resources, environment, ecology and disasters in the China-Pakistan economic corridor, and discuss cooperation about data sharing with experts and scholars of the National University of Sciences and Technology of Pakistan.

This field survey was carried out along Karakoram Highway and the Indus River Valley along the China-Pakistan economic corridor. Geological hazard sites and potential dangerous areas along the highway were investigated successively. Many ancient landslides spot investigation and field work were carried out. The first-hand data of resources, environment, ecology and disaster of the China-Pakistan economic corridor were obtained.

This disaster investigation will help DRRKS to enhance the application of engineering technology and the regional international cooperation. This joint investigation strengthened the exchanges and cooperation of disaster-related research institutions, experts and scholars in China-Pakistan economic corridor, and enhanced the international influence of IKCEST in disaster-related fields in China-Pakistan economic corridor.
