Delegation of Natural Sciences of UNESCO Office in Beijing Visited IKCEST

On May 25, 2018, Mr. Philippe Pypaert, programme specialist for Natural Sciences of UNESCO Office in Beijing and his colleague Ms. Li Ang visited the International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology under the Auspices of UNESCO (IKCEST). Mr. Song Dexiong, director general of General Administration Department of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and the executive deputy director of IKCEST, welcomed the visitors and took group photos. Ms. Liu Chang, deputy director of Knowledge Centre Office, General Administration Department of CAE, Secretariat, IKCEST, Professor Wang Juanle, executive director of Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service (DRR), Ma Yingchen, Zhang Ye and Fang Ying from Secretariat, IKCEST, and DRR team members, attended the meeting. Liu Chang presided over the talks.

Before the talks, Liu Chang first introduced the background, tasks and development of IKCEST, and broadcasted its promotional video. Then Wang Juanle introduced the DRR from its background, mission, major functions, implementation progress, challenges and future cooperation, and made an online demonstration.

Natural Sciences of UNESCO Office in Beijing, IKCEST and DRR team, conducted extensive exchanges and in-depth discussion on how to influence policy formulation, how to effectively translate knowledge theories into sustainable development action, scientific decisions in the field of disaster prevention and reduction, urban disasters, climate change and potential threats of the Belt and Road region, the network knowledge application and so on. Besides, Liu Chang expressed appreciation to delegation for visiting and said that IKCEST would strengthen exchanges and cooperation with UNESCO Office in Beijing.
