The rainfall process of middle and south of northeast region in July and August in 1985

The ten major rainstorms occurred in middle-south of the northeast region in July, August in 1985.

  • Rainstorm in Huan River and Taizi River from July 9th to 10th.most parts of Liaoning province has rained; rainfall was above 50 mm. There were two rainstorm centers: one was in Huan River system, the other was in the lower reaches of Taizi River, and central rainfall was 162 mm.
  • Rainstorm in HuanTaizi River from July 15th to 18th.Rainstorm center was at the Taizi River Benxi county bridge head hydrologic station. Rainfall reached 153 mm; the cover area of rainstorm was not large, the region that rainfall above 100 mm only included Benxi and Liaoyang these two counties.
  • Rainstorm in Haicheng River from July 19th to 21st.Each station's rainfall in the Haicheng River water system was mostly from 170~250 mm, once rainfall of the rainstorm center Haicheng county Ximu station was 257 mm, mainly rainfall concentrated on the 20th this day, one day rainfall occupied 80%~90% of this rainfall, let Haicheng River occurred the first flood since it has the record. The main rain area of this rainstorm was the region of Haicheng, Dandong, Benxi in Liaoning province, it also included Hun River, middle and lower reaches of Liao River, Second Songhua River, Lalin River, Tangwang River those rivers at the same time.
  • Extraordinary rainstorm in Yalu River from July 24th to 27th.From July 24th to 27th, Dandong, Benxi area and Zhuanghe County in Dalian, etc had heavy rain and extraordinary rainstorm, the average rainfall in Ai River watershed reached 262 mm. The center of the rainstorm was in the downstream of the Yalu River; rainfall reached above 400 mm; maximum point rainfall in Fengcheng county people's livelihood station reached 573 mm. Maximum daily rainfalls, Fengcheng county Chicken crown hill station in 25th was 377.2 mm; Sitaizi station was 480 mm. The maximum six-hours rainfall in Sitaizi station was 331 mm; Chicken crown hill was 300 mm, the maximum three-hour rainfall in Sitaizi station was 166 mm; Chicken crown hill was 212 mm, and all of them broke previous record. This extraordinary rainstorm , not only has mudslides broke out in the upper reaches of the Huan River , but also caused the second major flood in the lower reaches of the river since the establishment of the nation . This rainstorm covered a wide area; the main rain area is in the area of Dandong and Benxi, included Liao River, Second Songhua River until Tangwang River ii at the same time.
  • Rainstorm in the central and south of the northeast region from August 1st to 3rd. This time rainstorm center was in Fengcheng county Najiabbao station in Liaoning province, the rainfall distribution was relatively uniform, rain covered the area of Yalu River, Hun River water system, middle and lower reaches of Liao River, Dongliao River, Second Songhua River, Lalin River, Hulan River and Tangwang River. The rainstorm was mainly formed by the northward movement influence of No.6 typhoon.
  • Rainstorm in the middle reaches of Liao River from August 5th to 7th. From August 5th to 7th, the rainfall in Qing River pine water station was 106 mm , Each station in the middle and lower reaches of Liao River was under 100 mm . The distribution of the rain area was the same as the previous one, covered the middle and south of this area. Because of the previous continuous rain , the soil was nearly saturated; the bottom water of the main stream and tributary was relatively high , under the situation of little rainfall of this time , The main stream of Liao River occurred the first flood peak of this year .
  • Rainstorm from August 12th to 15th.Rain area was the same as the last rainstorm covered area, throughout the south and central of northeast region. This rain was affected by No.8 typhoon. The rainstorm center is located in five dragon back Yingtaizi station in Dandong city, Liaoning province; three-day rainfall was 202 mm. In addition, there were more than 10 stations with rainfall over 100 mm; this rainfall has formed the No.2 flood peak of the Liao River this year.
  • July 31st to August 15th , the accumulation rainfall in the Hulan river reached 200~350 mm; three flood processes have been created , occurred the second to third flood peak flow since 1911, equal to the flood that can only see from 30 to 50 years. The accumulation rainfall in the Tangwang river reached 350~450 mm , although the flood peak in 1985 was not large as the flood peak in 1988 , the flood volume was 35% more than in 1988 , the disaster caused by the flood was the worst since the devastating floods in 1961. There was Longfeng Mountain reservoir retarded flood on Lalin River, the flood peak flow of Caijia gully was 2010 cubic meters per second.
  • Extraordinary rainstorm from August 18th to 20th.August 18th to 20th, by the influence of No.9 typhoon, the south and central of northeast had heavy rain and extraordinary rainstorm. The central of rainstorm was in Haicheng county Niu Zhuang , three-day rainfall reached 405 mm, 100 mm precipitation isoline covered Liaodong Peninsula, lower reaches of Hun River, Taizi River water system, middle and lower reaches of Liao River, the whole rain area included south and a part of central in the northeast region, rainfall decreased from south to north. This rainstorm formed the third flood peak at Tieling in Liaoning province on August 20th.
  • Rainstorm in upper and middle reaches of Liao River from August 20th to 25th. There were two rainstorms central: One was in the interval between the Erlong Mountain reservoir in Dongliao River and the Taiping station, the other was near the Tongjiangkou hydrologic station. The cause of rainstorm was No.9 typhoon moved north to the region of Siping, maximum point rainfall in Tongjiangkou station was 142 mm. This rain caused the fourth flood peak in Liao River.
