Main tributaries of Liaohe River-The west Liaohe River

The west Liaohe River, refers to the confluence of Laoha River and Xilamulun River. It was called Huang Shui, Liao Shui or Daliao River combined with Xilamulun River historically. It has a total length of 403 km and a total area of 13,6000 square km, a stream gradient of 1/2500 and a drop of 186 m, running through Kailu, Tongliao, Zhengjiacun and joins East Liao River in Liaoning Province.

Most of its upper stream locates in Zhelimu League, Inner Mongolia. It flows from west to east, with smooth plains on both sides and full of hills. The climate of this area is arid and heavy rainfalls occur frequently and concentratedly. It has severe water and soil erosion issues and poor vegetation and high sediment concentration.

Because the West Liaohe River locates in descending area, and the long-term descending and river transporting in this area, it has had a thick illuvial horizon since Quaternary period. The main feature of West Liaohe River is that its main stream swings and has various flows.
