If the pH of the rain keeps increasing and acid rain takes shape, huge destruction will be brought to the environment. But what is it that turns the rainfall acidic in the air?

After the industrial revolution began, the usage of coal, petroleum and other chemical fuels increased exponentially as the acceleration of the industrialization. Theses fuels promoted the development of social production and life, but at the same time also caused daily increasing emission of waste gas.

There are sulfur impurities in coal and it gives out a large amount of SO2 when burning; Combustion of petroleum also releases tons of oxynitride, while SO2 and oxynitride are the chief culprits causing acid rain. Acid rain has some full brothers like acid snow, acid fog and acidic solid dust. Though the acidic family is new members in the atmosphere after industrial civilization, the erosion they made on the earth has already let people suffer for what they did by themselves.
