IKCEST DRR Team visited the international program office of Integrated Research on Disaster Risk

On May 4th, 2018, the team of Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service (DRR) was invited to visit the international program office of Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) to exchange views about the cooperation and to promote the establishment of partnership between the two sides. Han Qunli, Former executive director of the UNESCO’s Department of Natural Sciences and Executive director of the International Project Office of Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR), Professor Wang Juanle, Executive director of Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service, who works in the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fang Ying from Secretariat, UNESCO International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology(IKCEST), IRDR team members Lian Fang, Lucy, Lang Lang, and DRR team members Yuan Yuelei, Han Xuehua, Wang Yujie, participated in the meeting.

Director Han Qunli welcomed the DRR team. Then, he introduced IRDR's main research objectives, organizational structure, tasks of the working group, and the general achievements in recent years, and the developing ideas after 2020. Professor Wang Juanle introduced DRR in terms of its positioning, scientific mission, general goals, accomplishments in 2017 and its plans and future vision in 2018. The two sides conducted extensive exchanges and heated discussions on mutual cooperation partners, linking of websites, sharing of expert resources, joint organization of education and training, and exchange of meetings and research results.

This meeting has effectively facilitated the cooperation between DRR and IRDR, and laid a solid foundation for the two sides to increase their consensus, to develop cooperation in depth and to jointly improve both portals’ international influence.
