The full name of Malawi: Republic of Malawi (Chichewa: Dziko la Malaŵi; English: Republic of Malawi), located in the southeast of Africa, is a land locked country surrounded by Tanzania, Mozambique and Zambia, with a land area of 118000 square kilometers and a population of 15118000. Malawian is named after lake Malawian, the third largest lake in Africa, covering an area of 30000 square kilometers. The deepest water of the lake can reach more than 700 meters with many unique freshwater fish species in the world.
As one of the least developed countries in the world, Malawi is heavily dependent on international aid. The economy is dominated by agriculture, and the main economic crops include tobacco, coffee, tea, cotton and sugarcane. Among them, tobacco is the most important economic crop, tobacco related industries absorb 70% of the national labor force employment. Meanwhile, tobacco is the largest foreign exchange source of Malawi, accounting for 60% of the national foreign exchange income, mainly sold to Europe.
Malawi was once a British colony and remained in the Commonwealth after its independence, it was deeply influenced by Britain, the British model was adopted in administration, judicature and education. So far, Britain is still its most important aid country. More than 70% of the residents in the country believe in Christianity, and 20% of the population believe in Islam. Indian, Pakistani and Lebanon businessmen have strong economic strength and occupy a dominant position in many economic fields.
