NORSAR is responsible for operating some of the world’s most advanced monitoring installations for observing earthquakes and nuclear explosions.
NORSAR is designated as the Norwegian National Data Centre (NDC) for verifying compliance with the Comprehensive Nuclear- Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). Over the last 50 years, we have contributed advanced research leading to cutting edge methods within automatic data processing and seismological analysis.
NORSAR promotes the application of geoscientific research for the benefit of Norwegian society and industry, as well as for clients worldwide.

NORSAR's field installations for the CTBT network are situated in Hedmark (southern Norway), Troms and Finnmark (northern Norway) and on the islands of Spitsbergen and Jan Mayen.
