Abstract:

Early warning system is an important adaptive measure for climate change adaptation, using integrated communication systems to help communities prepare for hazardous climate-related events. A successful EWS saves lives and jobs, land and infrastructures and supports long-term sustainability. Early warning systems will assist public officials and administrators in planning, saving money in the long run and protecting economies. Many countries have rich experience in building EWS and/or MHEWS. The UN, working in diverse partnerships, has introduced a number of innovative early warning systems in vulnerable areas around the world. UN has launched an Early Warning for All in the coming 5 years as an important contribution to reducing loss and damage created by Climate Change.

The presentation will give you information on (1) Recognizing risks, their emergence identified and the need for integrated Multi-hazard EW approaches; (2) Identifying gaps and challenges; (3) MHEWS and its multi-stakeholder partnership at international, regional, national and urban levels; (4) Technical approaches towards MHEWS together supported by partnerships; (5) Discussion, Recommendation.
