Molar Mass Calculation - Molar Mass Online Calculator - Formula

The calculation of the molar mass of a substance is done as follows (we will use sulfuric acid as an example):

The current number of atoms in each elemental material. H 2

S 1

O 4

Check the periodic table of elements and determine the atomic mass (the atomic weight of each element).

H 1.00794

S 32.066

O 15.9994

Multiply the atomic mass of each atom in the formula.

H 1.00794 * 2 = 2.015

S 32.066 * 1 = 32.066

O 15.9994 * 4 = 63.998

The result of the third step adds up:

2.015+32.066+63.998 = 98.079 = Molar mass of sulfuric acid

In this example, the result is the correct value after rounding to the decimal point.

These calculations are necessary to determine the molarity or normalization of many other stoichiometric formulas (quantitative relationships in chemical equations between chemicals).

Try these formulas and compare your results to your calculator to get the following::

H2O

NH3

C2H4O2

K2Cr2O7

The formula can have one of the largest two brackets open at the same time, and the crystalline molecules must be placed last.
