As the floods come, we could be trapped on trees and rooftops, and many of victims were so scared that they don’t know how to survive. What should we do then?

1.Choose a shelter early

Shelter, generally should choose a place that are nearest to your home with higher ground and convenient transportation. These places have plumbing facilities and the health condition is good so you can keep good communication with the outside world and transport links.

Avoiding water in cities is relatively easy because of the flat roof of many tall buildings. Schools and hospitals with higher ground or strong buildings, as well as gardens with high ground and better conditions can be used as a shelter to avoid the flood.

When a flood hits a shelter, build or raise a wall if it is possible; If it isn’t, choose the place where we can take refuge timely and decisively, such as a solid roof or a shelter on a large tree, building a temporary shelter and so on.

When the flood surges, you can also use a rope or a sheet to connect the body with chimneys, trees and other fixed objects so as not to be swept away by the flood.

Living in the flood-prone area, people must learn to observe in normal times and watch out surrounding landform and choose a safe shelter once flood comes for yourself as well as the route to the safe place.

2.Actively seek for life

Being trapped in a flood, the trapped person don't show despair or wait passively for rescue, but should actively seek for life.

3.Careful launching

We must also remember that when the floods are raging, we can't go in the water because at this time besides the whirlpool of water, undercurrent and so on cause harm to the person easily, the floating objects that comes down in the upstream are also very likely to knock a person to faint, causing drowning.

There are other dangers we may encounter in water. For example, being bitten by poisonous snakes and poisonous insects; encountering electric shock of a wire on a collapsed pole. So be vigilant.

4.Help each other

Faced with the rolling billows, we often feel very helpless, but helping each other is also an effective way to get out of trouble. Meeting with others who are in in distress in the water, we all should give them a hand in our power.

If you need to evacuate

Vacate your home when you are advised to do so by local emergency authorities. Ignoring such a warning could jeopardize the safety of your family or those who might eventually have to come to your rescue.

Follow the routes specified by officials. Don't take shortcuts. They could lead you to a blocked or dangerous area.

Never cross a flooded area

If you are on foot, fast water could sweep you away.

If you are in a car, do not drive through flood waters or underpasses. The water may be deeper than it looks and your car could get stuck or swept away by fast water.

Avoid crossing bridges if the water is high and flowing quickly.

If you are caught in fast-rising waters and your car stalls, leave it and save yourself and your passengers
