Overview of SARS

SARS is a contagious atypical pneumonia, known as SevereAcute Re-spiratory Syndromes (SARS). It is a main symptom of fever, dry cough and chest tightness caused by SARS-associated coronavirus. A new respiratory infection of respiratory failure, highly contagious and rapid progression.

Source of infection: Current research shows that patients with atypical pneumonia and people with latent infection are a clear source of infection for atypical pneumonia. Contagiousness may be strong after fever, and the incubation period and recovery period are not contagious. But whether the animal is a source of infection is still controversial.

Mode of transmission: The main mode of SARS transmission is through close contact between people, close airborne droplets, respiratory secretions and close contact with patients. Another possibility is that SARS can be spread more widely through air or other means not currently known.

Susceptible population: Because SARS virus is a new type of coronavirus, it has not been found in human body in the past, so it is generally susceptible to the virus regardless of age, gender and population. The probability of onset depends on how much exposure or exposure is present. High-risk groups are health care workers who come into contact with patients, family members of patients, and people who have been to infected areas.

Symptoms and signs: fever (body temperature > 38 ° C) and cough, respiratory acceleration, shortness of breath, or respiratory distress syndrome, lung rales or more than one of the signs of lung consolidation.
