The report to UNESCO from Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service System

Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service (DRRKS) team of International Cooperation of the International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology under the Auspices of UNESCO (IKCEST) visited the UNESCO at France from Sep. 1 to 5, 2019. The DRRKS team, together with Soichiro Yasukawa and Masaya Sasaki, experts of the Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences of UNESCO, made intensive and detailed discussions on the progress of Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service System and preparations for the Third International Workshop for DRRKS. Chang Liu, director of division of IKCEST , and Lili Wu of China Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (CKCEST) participated in the meeting and gave guidance.

Professor Juanle Wang, the technical director of the DRRKS, firstly made a report on the progress and results in the past year, including disaster metadata standards, global engineering cases of disaster science data sets, expert databases, institutional databases, application of thematic knowledge, training video courseware, mail delivery of newsletters, user surveys, etc. The report focused on the achievements of DRRKS in network disaster big data mining, expanding international and domestic expert research networks, continuing international training, and joining the International Union of Disaster Reduction Science, etc. A thematic presentation was given to the Third International Workshop for Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service, which was scheduled to be held in December.

Subsequently, the team held a special talk with Miguel Clüsener-Godt, director of the Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences. Miguel Clüsener-Godt reviewed the cooperation between DRR of UNESCO and DRRKS of IKCEST, expressed his affirmation and thanks for the work done by the DRRKS team, and he believed that the work of the DRRKS team of IKCEST will have a brilliant future.

This visit has achieved a certain number of substantive results. In order to implement the results of this visit, the DRR team will formulate the next step to firmly promote the construction of the Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service System, and further improve its service effectiveness and international influence.
