Summary of Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service Sub-center Concise Meeting

A summary meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service was held on January 12-13, 2018.The main contents of the meeting were work summary for 2017 and work plan for 2018. More than 20 members from DRR team participated in the meeting.

Participants heated discussion and exchanges on the accomplishments of the disaster risk reduction tasks and academic achievements in 2017 as well as the plans for 2018.

In 2017, DRR made fruitful achievements, including construction of 28 DRR scientific datasets(pregnant environment datasets of 17 countries along the Belt and Road and 11 thematic datasets about droughts, earthquakes, floods, frozen rain and ice disasters), more than 800 items knowledge base resources about expert, institution, disaster event, catalogue of disaster open categories etc., 1500 disaster network information base, 12 natural disaster science coursewares and 15 video coursewares about disaster risk reduction and resource environment data sharing, development of 5 knowledge applications and 3 special knowledge services, accomplishment of 6 academic papers and 6 software copyrights. DRR had more than 140,000 page views, ranked in the top of the IKCEST and one-third were foreign users in 2017.

Disaster Risk Reduction Knowledge Service sub-center will continue to improve data resources, knowledge services and platform construction in 2018. Data resources: collecting of the global disaster database, the Belt and Road national conditions database (pregnancy disaster background), thematic disaster database, the global disaster information database, natural disaster historical map database of China and the Belt and Road regional disaster database. Knowledge service products: focusing on the open data of network disasters, exploring the development of knowledge service products, upgrading five knowledge applications and constructing five special knowledge applications. Platform construction: about the portal construction, upgrading the DRR system portal and increasing the online tutorial module based on the overall requirements of IKCEST and users' requirements, and about the system function module, developing the GIS vector data online editor, testing the function of DRR platform, data resource download management and statistics, etc. At the same time, DRR will strengthen content daily updates, disaster data visualization, website log analysis and mining.
