The ninth World Urban Forum held in Kuala Lumpur

The ninth World Urban Forum was held from Feb. 7 to Feb. 13, 2018, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which convened by UN-Habitat. Attendees from 185 countries came to Kuala Lumpur. The conference addressed sustainable urban development.The theme of the Ninth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF9) “Cities 2030, Cities for All: Implementing the New Urban Agenda” – placed the Forum’s focus on the New Urban Agenda as a tool and accelerator for achieving Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

UN-Habitat Executive Director Maimunah Mohd Sharif, speaking in her home country, said, “With its open and inclusive nature, the World Urban Forum is an opportunity for partners from all over the world, representing many priorities and points of view, to contribute to the global conversation on our cities and human settlements.”

Sessions included high level roundtables, assemblies and side events that pulled in a wide range of stakeholders in an effort to create a multifaceted dialogue. An exhibition and “urban village,” located in Kuala Lumpur city centre present real-world examples of projects, ideas and initiatives to create change at all scales.

The thematic itineraies included climate change, risk reduction and resilience, humanitarian, and so on.
