Based on the quantitative statistics of seismic damage with remote sensing, in terms of different seismic performances of rural and urban buildings, blocks, villages and towns are classified.According to the seismic performance difference of each area, the quantitative statistics of earthquake damage index should be revised appropriately. The quantitative relationships between remote sensing seismic damage index and ground synthetic seismic damage indexes for three types of regions are established as follows.

(1)Urban block. Urban block housings are mainly multi-story masonry, bottom frame and frame structure. The range of housing is considerably wide, most of which are formally designed. These are generally the locations of counties, cities and districts. The relationships between the average of remote sensing seismic damage index of urban block and the equivalent synthetic seismic damage index are shown as follows:

(2)Township block. The sizes of housing are moderate or smaller with multi-story masonry or bottom frame, mostly self-built houses. Normally, these are in rather developed towns. The relationship between the average of remote sensing seismic damage index of township block and equivalent synthetic seismic damage index is shown as follows:

(3)Rural block. The sizes of housing are relatively small featuring self-built houses(brick bungalows or roughcast houses), while a few are simple 2-3 layers of masonry and bottom frames. The relationship between the average of remote sensing seismic damage index of rural block and equivalent synthetic seismic damage index is shown as follows:

On the basis of equivalent synthetic seismic damage index, according to the relation curve between equivalent synthetic seismic damage index and the seismic intensity, namely the seismic intensity of the survey regions to be estimated, the actual estimations suggest that the seismic intensity determined by the results of remote sensing seismic damage extraction and that from field surveys are consistent for 12 detailed field survey of cities and towns, with the ratio of 85%.

To clarify, previous statistics are in the given intensity areas (intensity Ⅷ and above), Wenchuan. High-resolution(0.5m) satellite images are collected as the main data source, of which the suitability is conditional. Meanwhile, there remains some uncertainty between remote sensing seismic damage index and ground seismic damage index. Thus, the results mentioned above are initial and demonstrative.
