The rainstorm happened in the early of July 1963 in western Liaoning province

During July 18th to 20th in 1963 , there was a heavy rainfall , extraordinary rainfall occurred in Liugu River , Xiaoling River , Daling River , Raoyang River and upper reaches of Liu River in the west of Liaoning province , Xiaoling River , Liu River occurred extraordinary flood , which formed serious disasters.

Affected by the northern static front and the Bohai cyclones, most regions of Liaoning province rained during 18th to 20th, and the "sub-tropical high" was stable with a clumpy base near the Sea of Japan, the water vapor of the southwest airstream of its back was abundant which caused heavy rainstorm in the northwest of Liaoning province. Each day rainfall in the center of rainstorm: west Haertao street in the upper reaches of Raoyang River was 130.8 mm on 18th; Liujiazi in the upper reaches of Xiaoling River was 428.8 mm on 19th; Erdaolingzi in the middle reaches of Daling River was 213.6 mm on 20th; Three-day rainfall in the rainstorm center Chaoyang county Liujiazi station reached 552.0 mm.

The characteristics of the rainstorm are short time and great intensity; it mainly concentrated in the upper reaches of the Xiaoling River. As far as the Xiaoling River is concerned, the rain began around 19 a.m on 19th, and finished around 21 a.m on 20th, it took 33 hours, and the main rainfall was concentrated from 17 a.m on 19th to 5 a.m on 20th. Precipitation in twelve hours: it was 285.7 mm in Yangshan station; it was 364.6 mm in Liujiazi station. Precipitation in six hours: it was 163.3 mm in Yangshan station; it was 221.1 mm in Liujiazi station. Precipitation in three hours: Yangshan station reached 112.4 mm. Precipitation in an hour: Liujiazi station was above 42.5 mm.

The range of the rainfall was large , the area of three-day rainfall greater than 100 mm was 45 thousand square kilometers , the area above 200 mm had reached 16 thousand square kilometers , the average rainfall in the watershed of Gangyaokou station at Xiaoling River (catchment area is 2251 square kilometers) was 371.3 mm, the average rainfall in the watershed of Jinzhou station at Xiaoling River (catchment area is 2251 square kilometers) was 331.0 mm , formed catastrophic flooding that can only meet in 100 years , Jinzhou city was occurred by floods .
