Examples of Pre-Earthquake Thermal Anomalies

On September 2, 1679, the weather was especially hot before the magnitude-8 earthquake in Sanhe river, Hebei province, and Pinggu in Beijing. It was September, but it was still unbearably hot.

On March 16, 1925, before the Dali Earthquake, the yellow fog was all around; there was no rain for a long time, there was no cold weather at night and no dew in the morning, which formed a typical dry, hot and foggy weather.

In 1933, in Sichuan province, Tiexi earthquake happened. There are also such records of it: “it was continuously sunny and very hot for days , especially before the earthquake. At 14:30 PM earthquake happened. At night the weather changed suddenly with howling wind and pouring rain. At 22pm, the ground suddenly moved.”

On March 8th, 1966, in Hebei province, Xingtai earthquake happened. The ground thawed in the earthquake zone, and spring returned early. According to meteorological data, the average daily temperature rose sharply by 25℃ from -13℃ to 12℃ several days before the earthquake.

On July 26th, 1969, in Guangdong province, Yangjiang earthquake happened. A few days before the earthquake, it was particularly sultry making people feel uncomfortable.

On January 5, 1970, in Yunnan province, Tonghai earthquake. It was the coldest month of the year in the local area, but a few days before the earthquake, the weather became hot. Even at night, people felt very hot. Many people couldn’t fall asleep with the hot wind blowing towards the face. This lasted until the earthquake came.

On February 6, 1973, in Sichuan province, Luhuo earthquake happened. There were series of hot days preceding the earthquake with temperature higher than that of the same period in previous years.

On May 1, 1974, Yongshan earthquake happened. The days before the earthquake were especially sultry and hotter than June.
