Analysis of the meteorological thermal anomalies before the earthquake

2018-09-05  |   Editor : houguangbing

Summer in China is often under the control of warm and moist oceanic air masses. The thermal anomaly before the earthquake promotes the enhancement of convection, which is usually accompanied by heavy rain. After the rain, the weather becomes hotter and reaches a climax before the earthquake.

After the Tangshan earthquake in 1976, heavy rain fell in Beijing, Tianjin and other places, followed by strong aftershocks.

Some people found that when there is more pressure changes, there will be more earthquakes. While earthquakes in mountainous areas occur more when pressure drops.

Proverbs like "when cold and heat interlocks, earthquake attacks", "earthquake happens when sunny or cloudy days last too long", "long sunny days lead to earthquakes in morning, long cloudy days lead to earthquake at night”, all explain the relationship between weather change and earthquakes.

When the weather changes, it may be because of the pressure of the atmosphere on the earth's crust is uneven, leading to more active fracture activities in the area where earthquake is going to happen. Or the warmer weather may be out of the heat released from an impending rupture of the earth's crust.

The meteorological thermal anomalies before the earthquake have been noticed and paid attention to in the previous experience of dealing with earthquakes. The meteorological and seismic group of the Seismic Brigade in Lanzhou has collected general reflection of abnormal weather before earthquake from people in the seismic area. The group has made a conclusion of the detailed record of the weather before earthquakes in Chinese seismic history. It put forward that the thermal anomaly is a profound and widespread phenomenon after systematically analyzing the meteorological information in modern times.
