Dust storm is a storm formed by the wind blowing a large amount of dust and other fine particles into the sky. A large amount of dust sand is blown up by strong gusts or strong winds, flying in the air and causing air turbidity, and the horizontal visibility is less than 1 km. The consequences are endless flying sand, which has gradually become One of the most common natural disasters in the world.

Dust storms arise when a gust front or other strong wind blows loose sand and dirt from a dry surface. Fine particles are transported into the air and make the air cloudy. It is one of the major disastrous weather conditions in northern China. Dust storms are classified into floating dust, blowing sand, sandstorms, severe sandstorms, and exceptionally strong sandstorms.

Sandstorms, as a kind of wind-sand disaster with high strength, do not happen in all windy places. Only in areas that are dry with sparse vegetation can dust storms occur. Dust storms occur mostly in the inland desert regions, mainly in the Sahara desert, in the the Midwest of North America and Australia. From 1933 to 1937 there was a famous bowl- shaped sand storm in North America due to severe drought.

Asian sandstorm activities concentrate mainly along the shore in Jordan desert, Baghdad and Mesopotamia in the northern gulf, Iran's southern coast near Abbas, and plains from Bailuzhi to the north of Afghanistan. The central Asian region of the Soviet Uunion, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan are all areas of frequent sandstorms, but the center is the sandy plain between the Caspian Sea and the Aral Sea and Amu River.

In northwest of China, the forest coverage rate isn’t very high and people who want to make a fortune try to dig the licorice, fractionation, mining rich and these predatory destructions exacerbate the sandstorm disasters in this area. Exposed land is easy to be picked up by the wind to form a sandstorm or even a strong sandstorm.

There are at least 38 kinds of chemical elements in sandstorm and it greatly increases the solid atmospheric pollutants concentration, causing long-term potential hazards to the atmospheric environment, soil, agricultural productions in the area of origin and surrounding areas. In particular, if the meagre soil is blown away, the barren land will have a serious impact on crop yields.
