In two o’clock in the afternoon of June 16, 2004, Du Qian village of Du Qiao county in Lin Hai city, Zhe Jiang province, 30 people taking shelter from rain in different locations of the 5 trees, unfortunately struck by lightning. 11 people were dead on the spot who had been launched 3 meters far by strong air, the rest were injured and were sent to a nearby hospital immediately, then 6 of them were seriously injured to death. This lightning strike caused 17 people to be killed and 13 people were injured, which was one of the worst thunderstrikes since the founding of People's Republic of China.
In June 2007, the Xing Fu road of Du Chang County in Jiu Jiang city, Jiangxi Province, was struck by lightning which smashed color TV and nearly a hundred telephone sets. The direct economic loss was about 300 000 yuan. Among them, the economic losses of the equipment room of the township post office were nearly 200 000 yuan, and the total loss of all the rural cable TV, broadcasting system and 1 computer was 60 000 yuan, resulting in the communication interruption of the township government for 2 days, and the 30 sets of nearby residents' color TV and telephone were damaged.
