From 1996 to 1998, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the remote sensing Institute of Peking University. In 1998, he entered Capital Normal University as an academic leader. In December 2004, he served as vice-principal of Capital Normal University; in November 2013 he was appointed principal of Capital Normal University.
He has presided over the national "863" project, the national key projects, the National Natural Science Foundation and so on. And he jointly presided over the key projects of international cooperation between China and france. He published more than 170 papers, monographs, Atlas more than 10. He has won 7 awards at the provincial and ministerial level and above in teaching and scientific and technological progress.

Mr Gong HuiLi is the head of the Capital Normal University, director of the Beijing Key Laboratory of Resources, Environment and Geographic Information System, and director of the Joint Laboratory of Spatial Information Technology. He is a part-time professor at the Northeast Institute of Geography and Agroecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, director of the Chinese geographical society, vice president of the Beijing geographical society, and a member of the International Water Resources Association and the international water quality society.
