Its director is Dr. R. Krishnan. In India's third five-year plan, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology was established on November 17, 1962. It is mainly responsible for: meteorological observations, weather forecasts, and India earthquake detection. Its headquarters are located in Pune, Maharashtra.
