The adjacent side of angle a is called the cosine of ∠A, which is called cos A, that is, cos A = the adjacent/hypotenuse of angle a (right triangle). Denoted as cos A = x/r.

The definition domain of cosine function is the whole set of real numbers, and the range is [-1,1].

It is a periodic function with a minimum positive period of 2 π. When the independent variable is 2kπ (k is an integer), the function has a maximum value of 1;

When the independent variable is (2k+1)π, the function has a minimum -1. Cosine function is even function and its image is symmetric about y axis.
